The RC5 is a special design that resulted from a collaboration with Bryan Ingenito of Home Audio Connection.
He was looking for a true reference speaker to showcase his line of Blue Circle Audio components. It was very important that
he would have a neutral speaker that also provided lifelike dynamics and imaging.
A great deal of attention was paid to creating a design that would work well in a variety of rooms and systems.
In order to achieve that goal we selected drivers that are very low in distortion and coloration. Dual 10" AuraSound aluminum
cone woofers were chosen because of their advanced motor structures and stiff aluminum cones. The end result is bass with
excellent extension and definition.
The critical midrange is handle by a MTM arrangement featuring dual Seas Excel Nextel 5" midbass drivers.
The combination of two per side provides an equivalent surface area of one 8" driver. Greater dynamic range is possible now
without the dispersion and breakup limitations of using a single larger driver like other designs have. The tighter spacing
of the midbass drivers also permits smoother vertical coverage than say 7" drivers would allow.
The MTM configuration required a robust tweeter that could handle a low crossover point and meet our desired
criteria of low distortion. After considering a number of units (including domes and ribbons) we decided the Seas Crescendo
tweeter was best for this application. The innovative motor design and refined dome material conveys a smooth response with
good detail and resolution.
The cabinet design is engineered for an elegant tapered look that also functions to reduce diffraction and minimize
internal resonances. The interior is solidly braced and treated with a composite damping material in critical areas. The high
quality crossover includes Mundorf Supreme film-foil capacitors in the tweeter section, Mills resistors, and low distortion
inductors.
The net result is a speaker that outperforms others costing 2-3 times or more. Dynamics, low coloration, precise
soundstaging, and great system compatibility are packaged into an attractive furniture quality cabinet. Please consider
